Anna Talbot holds a BFA from Emily Carr University where she discovered a passion for traditional printmaking. This led to printing on silk, vintage garments, linens and eventually garment construction. Since 2008 Anna has produced five solo shows, published an art and poetry book in collaboration with designer Lindsay Steele, and developed her first collection.
Her work often incorporates embroidered text, images, and hand printed etchings. This process involves natural dyes and pigments. The inspiration for her work is the female body, identity, human anatomy, and personal narratives. She believes that the sensual properties of organic materials are irreplaceable and vital to each piece in the collection.
Anna's garments have both an organic and elegant aesthetic. Rich with detail, her collection creates a space between fashion and fine art.
My work deals with the human body which exhibiting its contradictions, delicacy , vulnerability and silmultaneous strength. Through the mediums of printmaking, textiles and painting I emphasize materiality and aesthetics which provoking critical response. Through this process I seek to reveal the human body in a way that evokes nostalgia towards the precious and sacred.
